James Bond For Your Eyes Only (1981)
For Your Eyes Only is a thrilling James Bond movie that was released in 1981. Directed by John Glen and produced by Albert R. Broccoli, the film stars Roger Moore as the legendary MI6 agent James Bond. The film also features an impressive cast including Carole Bouquet, Chaim Topol, Lynn-Holly Johnson, and Julian Glover.
As the 12th film in the James Bond franchise produced by Eon Productions, For Your Eyes Only was based on two Ian Fleming short stories, “For Your Eyes Only” and “Risico”. The film follows Bond as he attempts to locate a missile command system while becoming embroiled in a web of deception involving rival Greek businessmen and Melina Havelock, a woman seeking revenge for the murder of her parents.
After the more fantastical and science fiction-focused Moonraker, the producers of For Your Eyes Only wanted to return to the more serious and realistic tone of the early Bond films and the works of 007 creator Fleming. The film was shot on location in Greece, Italy, England, and The Bahamas, and features a memorable title theme song performed by Scottish singer Sheena Easton.
For Your Eyes Only received mixed to positive reviews from critics and was a financial success, generating $195.3 million worldwide. The film marked the final Bond film to be distributed solely by United Artists, which was absorbed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer shortly after its release.
In the movie, Bond is tasked with retrieving a crucial missile command system, the Automatic Targeting Attack Communicator (ATAC), before the Soviets can get their hands on it. He becomes entangled in a web of deception as he tries to find out who hired the Cuban hitman who murdered Sir Timothy Havelock and his wife. With stunning action sequences, a thrilling storyline, and a memorable cast of characters, For Your Eyes Only is a must-watch for fans of the James Bond franchise.
